There was an incident in Modesto, CA back in the 60s that personified the People taking action against a Sheriff about to seize a home in some kind of action. The People stood on one side of the road out numbering the Sheriff's men. The People were armed with shotguns, etc., and stated to the Sheriff that they were prepared to help the man defend his property. Eventually, the Sheriff and his men backed down and left. I tried to find a newspaper account of it and even emailed the mayor of Modesto...he never answered, and nothing was able to be found. But, the story lives on, and, I hope not only as an urban legend, but as a clear indication of what sometimes has to be done. Every once in a while I continue to search for the account. Hopefully, one day I'll find it and share it...
